Getting StartedWorld of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the fantasy world of Azeroth. As a new player, your first step is choosing a faction β€” the Alliance or the Horde β€” and then selecting a race and class for your character. Each faction has its own cities, storylines, and culture, so pick whichever appeals to you most. Your choice of race provides minor racial abilities, but these rarely matter outside of high-end competitive play.

Once you enter the game, you'll begin in a starting zone tailored to your race. Follow the quest markers on your minimap to learn the basics of combat, movement, and interacting with NPCs. Quests reward experience points, gold, and gear upgrades. As you level up, you'll unlock new abilities on your action bar β€” take time to read each tooltip so you understand what your spells and attacks do.

At level 10, you can queue for dungeons using the Group Finder tool. Dungeons are five-player instances where you'll fight through challenging enemies and bosses for better loot. This is a great way to learn group dynamics: tanks hold enemy attention, healers keep the group alive, and damage dealers focus on killing enemies quickly.

Don't rush to max level on your first character. Explore the world, read quest text, and experiment with different abilities. Join a friendly guild early on for advice and companionship. The community is one of WoW's greatest strengths, and experienced players are usually happy to help newcomers find their footing in Azeroth.
