Maps and Strategy in PUBG

PUBG features several maps of varying sizes that encourage different playstyles. Erangel is the original 8x8km map with a mix of open fields, cities, and military installations β€” it rewards balanced gameplay with both long-range and close-range engagements. Miramar is a desert 8x8km map with rolling terrain and long sightlines, favoring DMRs and sniper rifles. Sanhok is a 4x4km tropical map with dense vegetation and frequent encounters due to its smaller size.

Vikendi is a 6x6km snow map offering a middle ground between the larger and smaller maps. Taego is an 8x8km Korean-themed map with a self-revive mechanic and a comeback system for eliminated players. Deston features diverse terrain including swamps, cities, and a concert venue with unique loot locations. Each map rotates in and out of the active pool, so familiarize yourself with whichever maps are currently available.

Positioning is the most important strategic element in PUBG. High ground gives you better sightlines and forces enemies to expose themselves when pushing uphill. The edges of the safe zone are dangerous β€” players rotating in from the blue zone will be running through your position. Playing center circle is generally safer but means more potential enemies in all directions. Compound camping (holding a building complex) provides strong cover but can trap you if the zone moves away.

Late-game strategy shifts dramatically. In the final circles, use terrain and cover rather than buildings, as the zone may force you out. Prone in grass and behind ridgelines to minimize your profile. Smoke grenades become invaluable for crossing open ground and reviving teammates. Pay attention to kill feeds and the player count to know how many threats remain. Sometimes the best play is patience β€” let other teams fight each other while you maintain a strong position, then engage the weakened survivors.
