Guild Wars 2's open world PvE is the most accessible content, featuring dynamic event chains, world bosses, and meta-events that draw dozens of players together. World bosses spawn on fixed schedules and reward daily loot chests. Meta-events are map-wide event chains that progress through stages β€” Heart of Thorns maps are particularly known for their elaborate meta-events that require server-wide coordination.

Fractals of the Mists are five-player instanced dungeons scaled across 100 difficulty tiers. Higher tiers add Agony, a debuff requiring Agony Resistance infusions on Ascended gear. Fractals are the primary repeatable PvE endgame and offer daily reward chests with valuable crafting materials. Raids are ten-player instances featuring bosses with complex mechanics, offering unique armor skins, Legendary Insights (for Legendary armor crafting), and exclusive decorations.

Strike Missions bridge the gap between open world content and raids, offering ten-player boss encounters at varying difficulty levels. Challenge Modes on Strike Missions provide raid-level difficulty for players seeking that experience with more accessible entry points.

Structured PvP (sPvP) equalizes all players to level 80 with max stats, making it purely skill-based. The primary format is 5v5 Conquest (capture and hold three nodes). Ranked seasons award unique armor and weapon skins. World vs. World (WvW) pits three servers against each other in massive open-world battles over castles, towers, and supply camps on four large maps. WvW features siege weapons, commander-led zergs, roaming small groups, and a persistent weekly matchup cycle. It's one of GW2's most unique features, offering large-scale warfare rarely seen in other MMOs.
