ESO's zone stories are among the best quest content in any MMO. Each zone features a multi-hour storyline with memorable characters, moral dilemmas, and rewarding conclusions. The base game includes the main story, Alliance stories, and Coldharbour. DLC zones like Murkmire, the Clockwork City, and chapter expansions (Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, Greymoor, Blackwood, High Isle, Necrom, Gold Road) each add extensive story content.
Group dungeons are four-player instances available in Normal and Veteran difficulties, with Hard Mode options on final bosses. The Dungeon Finder provides matchmaking based on your selected role. Trials are twelve-player raids with Normal, Veteran, and Hard Mode difficulties, offering the game's best gear sets and leaderboard rankings. Popular trials include Cloudrest, Sunspire, Rockgrove, and Dreadsail Reef.
PvP centers on two main formats. Cyrodiil is a massive open-world PvP zone where three alliances battle for control of the Imperial City and its surrounding keeps, resources, and towns. Campaigns last 30 days with leaderboards and rewards. Battlegrounds are 4v4v4 instanced matches with modes like Deathmatch, Capture the Relic, and Domination, offering quick competitive PvP without the time commitment of Cyrodiil.
Crafting is deeply integrated into ESO's gear system. Six crafting professions (Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworking, Jewelry Crafting, Alchemy, Enchanting, Provisioning) let you create powerful gear, potions, food, and enchantments. Many best-in-slot gear sets are crafted rather than dropped. Daily writs (crafting quests) provide consistent income and materials. Housing is an extensive system with hundreds of furnishings to craft or collect, and players create impressive homes ranging from cozy apartments to sprawling estates. Antiquities is a treasure-hunting system that rewards unique furnishings, mythic items with powerful effects, and cosmetics through a dig-site minigame.
