All Pick is the standard Dota 2 mode where each player selects a hero from the full pool, with a banning phase that removes some options. This is the primary mode for both unranked and ranked matchmaking. Ranked matches use a Medal system ranging from Herald through Guardian, Crusader, Archon, Legend, Ancient, Divine, and the top-tier Immortal. Your MMR (matchmaking rating) is a numerical score that determines your rank.
Captain's Mode is the format used in professional Dota 2. One player on each team acts as captain, picking and banning heroes in a structured draft. This mode emphasizes team composition and counter-picking and is the closest experience to competitive Dota. Captain's Draft is similar but limits the hero pool to a random subset.
Turbo mode is an accelerated version of Dota 2 where gold and experience are earned faster, towers are weaker, and respawn times are shorter. Games typically last 20-30 minutes instead of 40-60. It's excellent for learning new heroes and experimenting with item builds without the full time commitment of a regular match.
Ability Draft is a unique mode where all players' hero abilities are pooled and drafted one by one, creating custom ability combinations on random hero bodies. It's chaotic and fun for experienced players who understand ability synergies. Single Draft gives each player three random heroes to choose from, forcing you out of your comfort zone. The Arcade section features community-created custom games including tower defense, RPG adventures, and auto-chess variants, providing endless variety beyond the core Dota 2 experience.
