Competitive is the heart of Counter-Strike 2. Two teams of five play a best-of-30-rounds match on bomb defusal maps. The game uses a skill-based rating system with visible CS Rating numbers replacing the old rank icons. Matches typically last 30-45 minutes and require focus and communication throughout. Premier mode uses the same format but adds a map pick-and-ban phase, similar to professional play.
Casual mode offers a more relaxed experience with larger teams (up to 10v10), no friendly fire, free armor, and no penalty for leaving. It's a good place to learn map layouts and practice without competitive pressure. Deathmatch is a free-for-all mode with instant respawns, perfect for warming up your aim before competitive matches or practicing new weapons.
Arms Race is a gun progression mode where each kill advances you to the next weapon in a sequence, ending with a knife kill to win. Demolition is a smaller-scale version of the bomb defusal format with weapon progression β you receive a new weapon each round based on your kills in the previous round.
Wingman is a 2v2 competitive mode played on smaller versions of maps with a single bomb site. It's an excellent way to practice with a friend and develop site-holding skills. The game also features workshop maps created by the community, which are invaluable for practicing smoke lineups, spray patterns, and aim training. Maps like Aim Botz and Yprac guides are must-haves for players serious about improving their mechanical skills.
