Team Deathmatch (TDM) is the most straightforward mode: two teams compete to reach a kill target first. It's the best starting mode for learning maps and mechanics without objective pressure. Domination features three capture points (A, B, C) that teams fight to control β holding more flags earns points faster. The B flag is usually the most contested and controlling it often determines the winner.
Hardpoint is a competitive favorite where teams fight over a rotating objective zone. The Hardpoint location changes every 60 seconds, and the team with the most time in the zone wins. This mode rewards map knowledge (knowing where the next Hardpoint will be) and team coordination. Search and Destroy is the tactical mode β no respawns, one team plants a bomb while the other defends. It's the primary mode for competitive Call of Duty esports.
Free-for-All pits every player against each other with the first to reach the kill target winning. It's excellent for pure gunfight practice. Kill Confirmed is like TDM but requires collecting dog tags from fallen enemies to score, encouraging aggressive play rather than camping. Headquarters has teams fight to capture and hold a single objective that moves around the map.
Warzone is the free-to-play battle royale mode supporting up to 150 players. It features the Gulag system where eliminated players get a 1v1 chance to respawn, plus the ability to buy back teammates at Buy Stations. Zombies mode offers cooperative PvE gameplay where teams of four survive waves of undead enemies while completing objectives, unlocking new areas, and attempting Easter egg quest lines. Zombies has its own weapon progression and unique Pack-a-Punch upgrade system.
