Getting StartedApex Legends

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale game set in the Titanfall universe, where squads of three compete to be the last team standing. Each match drops 60 players (20 squads) onto a large map where you loot weapons, armor, and equipment while the playable area shrinks over time, forcing encounters. The game stands out from other battle royales with its exceptional movement system and unique Legend abilities.

Landing is your first critical decision each match. The Jumpmaster controls the squad's drop trajectory. As a beginner, avoid hot drops (areas directly under the dropship path where many squads land) and choose locations with enough loot for your full squad. Named locations on the map generally have better loot density than unnamed areas. Ping the location you want to go so your team can coordinate.

The ping system is Apex's signature communication tool. You can ping enemies, loot, locations, and danger without ever using a microphone. Double-tap the ping button to mark enemy positions. Get in the habit of pinging everything useful β€” ammo, attachments, and weapons your teammates might need. Good ping usage is the difference between coordinated teams and scattered ones.

Armor comes in four tiers: white (common), blue (rare), purple (epic), and gold (legendary, which has a special perk). Evo shields start weak but upgrade as you deal damage, potentially becoming red tier β€” the strongest in the game. Always prioritize upgrading your armor. The Replicator crafting stations scattered around the map let you craft specific items using materials gathered from the environment, giving you more control over your loadout.
